The CRC remains at the top of the corporate agenda

As the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) Energy Efficiency Scheme approaches large businesses and high street retailers will be forced to change their approach to tempt customers through the doors.

Retailers making use of bright window displays and open doors to encourage customers into their stores may need to change their approach, as energy efficiency remains firmly at the top of the corporate agenda.

The Environment agency suggests that, “the days of leaving doors open to encourage customers in and leaving lights on 24 hours a day will be left behind as high street retailers look for the quick wins in the race to cut carbon emissions.”

Tony Grayling, Head of Climate Change and Sustainable Development at the Environment Agency, believes this is a chance for retailers to benefit from the scheme, “By cutting energy use businesses stand to benefit from lower energy bills, and could be financially rewarded through the CRC if they perform well in the energy efficiency stakes.”
