Royal Assent for the Energy Bill

On Thursday 8th April, the Energy Bill received Royal Assent, becoming the Energy Act 2010.
The fundamentals of the Act include,
- Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) to help deliver a new financial incentive to bring projects on coal-fired power stations
- Clarifying Ofgem’s remit including the reduction of carbon emissions, the delivery of secure energy supplies and steps to proactively protect consumers
- Mandatory social price support creating a mandate for energy companies to provide support to the fuel poor
- Tackling market power exploitation giving Ofgem additional powers to tackle market exploitation
