The energy costs of UK cities could be reduced by billions of pounds if cities were to use commercially attractive opportunities in energy and carbon management. In four years, these investments would pay for themselves. This news comes following research published today by the Centre for Low Carbon Futures. The Centre is a collaborative research centre formed by the Universities of Hull, Leeds, Sheffield and York.
The research will be debated on January 12th by an expert panel in Parliament.
Jon Price, Director of the Centre for Low Carbon Futures Director, said: "Finding financially viable solutions to decarbonise our homes and businesses and the places where we live and work should be central to our global climate change strategy. This research demonstrates that investing in low carbon solutions now is not only financially possible but also makes absolute economic sense."
