Energy efficient households 'could save £2bn a year'

27 October 2010

Research by the Energy Saving Trust claims households could save as much as £2 billion a year if they take three steps towards becoming energy efficient.

  1. Install loft and cavity wall insulation
  2. Replace light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs
  3. Turn appliances off standby

By following these rules, consumers could save money on their energy bills and cut nearly ten million tonnes of CO2.

As part of Energy Saving Week, the body has also been publishing surveys related to different aspects of lowering energy costs:

  • 55% of consumers are using less energy than a year ago
  • 42% would pay more to retrofit their property to make their home more energy efficient
  • 36% of homeowners would consider a home survey to see if renewable energy could be installed in their home.
