Environment Agency consultation opens

On 28th September 2011 the Environment Agency opened a consultation on proposed changes to their major charging schemes. The consultation covers their charging proposals for Environmental Permitting, abstraction and Emissions Trading charging schemes from 2012-2015. They are seeking views from charge payers, trade associations and other interested parties on their major proposals which are:

• No change to the rate of charges for the majority of charge payers for two years with a check at the end of the first year (this does not include abstraction charges);
• A small number of technical changes that are largely beneficial to industry; and
• A small increase in charges in year 3.

They propose to increase abstraction charges each year to fund specific cost pressures.

Responses are invited via their website until 21st December 2011.
