Minimum cost on carbon emissions will make the coal industry uncompetitive

15.11.11

According to a report by the Centre for Policy Studies, a right-wing think-tank, the Government’s carbon floor price will make the UK coal industry uncompetitive and lead to the country importing all its supplies from overseas. According to the report, the industry’s demise could come within the next 15 years, by the mid-2020s.

It is thought that, on 29th November, the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) will announce a support package to offer tax breaks to those firms most likely to migrate due to the carbon floor price.
