New energy bill confirmed by the Queen

The Queen’s speech on Tuesday 25^th May confirmed energy and the green economy as a government priority for the coming year.

 

The main focus is the national implementation of energy efficiency measures in homes and businesses. The “Green Deal” will also support a framework to secure low-carbon energy supplies and promote ‘fair’ competition in the energy markets.

 

In addition the national programme may also introduce powers to regulate the emissions from coal-fired power stations, as well as a new framework to help revolutionise the management of supply and demand for electricity.
