DECC unveil spending review

20.10.2010

The DECC’s (Department of Energy & Climate Change) spending review will ensure that the UK is on schedule to meet the planned 2020 environmental goals, which include:

  • Reducing the UK’s greenhouse emissions by 34%
  • 15% of all energy consumed to be sourced from renewable source
  • Making it economical for the private sector to support a green economy

The DECC are not outside the spending cuts made by the government: having to reduce spending by 18% with the Department’s Administration budget being reduced by 33%. However the DECC will also increase capital spending by 41%.

Chris Huhne, Energy and Climate Change Secretary said:

“Like the rest of the public sector we have taken some tough decisions, but we remain on course to deliver on our promise to be the greenest government ever. We will help create green jobs and green growth, and secure the low carbon investment we need to keep the lights on.”
