Charles Hendry, UK Energy Minister, has revealed that the government are close to finalising a list of sites for new nuclear power stations.
Speaking to business leaders at the CBI Energy conference in London, Hendry said: "As the Prime Minister and Chris Huhne have said, we want to see new nuclear as part of a low carbon energy mix going forward, provided there is no public subsidy."
"I can confirm today that we are close to finalizing the NPS' (nuclear power stations) and will publish them very shortly, so that they can be put to MP's for approval before the Parliamentary recess.”
Hendry also reiterated the UK government’s commitment to renewable energy, aiming to achieve 15% renewable energy in the UK’s energy mix by 2020.
