New task group launched to make UK’s non-domestic buildings more energy efficient

24.01.11

The UK Green Building Council (UK-GBC) has launched a new task group to help make the UK’s non-domestic buildings more energy efficient.

Non-domestic buildings produce around 17% of all UK carbon emissions. The Carbon Trust think this could be reduced by 75%, at no net cost, resulting in a financial benefit to the UK of up to £4.5bn, cumulative to 2020.

The group, which includes some of the industry’s largest companies, will make detailed recommendations in March, on how to mandate Display Energy Certificates (DECs) for all commercial buildings and how to improve the Carbon Reduction Commitment.
