Delivering accurate monthly bills.

How to Read Your Meter

The best way to ensure accurate bills is to keep your account up-to-date by regularly submitting meter reads, ideally every month, but at least every three to four months. Reading your electricity meter is easy; use our simple instructions to find out how.

Reading Single and Multiple Rate Digital Meters

 Single Rate

• Record the numbers left to right, ignoring the red number(s).

The meter reading for this example is 08330

Multiple Rates

• If your meter has multiple rows of registers, record the numbers left to right in each row, ignoring the red numbers marked 1/10.

Reading a Digital Electricity Meter

• Digital meters are easy to read. To record the meter readings simply press the blue or display select button to scroll through each register.
• If your digital meter does not have a button you will have an auto display scrolling display meter.
• This type of meter will change screens every 5-10 seconds, record each meter reading that appears.

The meter reading for this example is 00254.013

Reading an Electricity Dial Meter

• Each dial turns in the opposite direction from the one before it, so take some time to check the way each turns.
• Each dial reads from 0-9.
• Read the dials from left to right, ignoring the dial marked 1/10 as this is only used for testing.
• When the pointer is between two numbers, always note down the lower number. This is not necessarily the nearest number to the pointer.
• However, if the number is between 9 and 0, write down 9.
• If the pointer is directly over a number, record and underline the number.

The meter reading for this example is 66148.
