Opus Energy’s cleaner power: a guideWhen your customers start a contract with Opus Energy, they'll benefit from our commitment to buying as much power as we can from low-carbon sources.
Using our cleaner energy reduces your clients' environmental impact. They will be contributing to a more sustainable supply, less reliant on finite fossil fuels.
Every unit of cleaner power we buy is exempt from the Climate Change Levy (CCL). The CCL is a duty placed on businesses using over 12,000 kWh.
The CCL aims to cut carbon emissions by encouraging businesses to lower their energy usage; one way it does this is by making all renewable power exempt from the duty.
In short, the cleaner power we supply comes at no extra cost.

We purchase renewable and CHP power, Levy Exemption Certificates (LECs), Renewal Electricity Guarantees of Origin (REGOs) and Renewable Obligation Certificates (ROCs).
Some of the renewable power that we purchase comes from Europe. We arrange with the generator to import the power from the continent across the interconnector into the UK.
