The CRC, don’t be left in the dark

The UK’s mandatory climate CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme began back in April 2010. As a result, our business customers face some challenging times to ensure they change their energy behaviors and infrastructure to meet the CRC’s guidelines. The pressure is on with a recent report from Reuters* estimating that up to 7,500 companies are expected to face fines of £5,000 each if they miss the registration deadline of 30th September 2010.

If you haven’t already, now is the time to approach energy efficiency in the workplace.  Ensure your business reduces its energy bills and the impact it has on the environment by changing a few simple things around the office.

Turn off equipment when not in use
PC screen consumption can often represent 1/3 of the electricity consumption in a modern office. Encouraging your employees to turn off their monitors when they leave at the end of the day can make a huge difference

Use technology to save you money
Installing infra-red presence detectors in your office(s) the lights will switch off when rooms or desks are unoccupied

Energy efficient light bulbs
Energy efficiency bulbs will use around a quarter of the electricity and last up to 12 times longer than a standard bulb

Think before you print
Ink-jet printers use 90% less energy than other printers. If your business needs to do a large print run, think about whether this could be done during off-peak hours to save money

Check for draughts
Draught proof all windows and doors. Poorly insulated window frames and single glazed windows can loose 20% of your heat

Buy energy efficiency approved equipment
An energy efficient fridge could save you up to £45 a year and it will reduce carbon dioxide output
