Renewable power planetOpus Energy’s cleaner power: a guide

Where our cleaner energy comes from, and how it benefits you.

As an Opus Energy customer, you benefit from our commitment to buying as much power as we can from low-carbon sources.

  • 37% of the energy we supplied over the last three years came from cleaner, low-carbon sources
  • Our electricity generated 32% less CO2 than that of the average UK supplier last year
  • We've been purchasing renewable power for almost a decade

Using our cleaner energy reduces your organisation’s environmental impact. You will be contributing to a more sustainable supply, less reliant on finite fossil fuels.

Cleaner energy at no extra cost

Wind powerEvery unit of cleaner power we buy is exempt from the Climate Change Levy (CCL). The CCL is a duty placed on businesses using over 12,000 kWh.

The CCL aims to cut carbon emissions by encouraging businesses to lower their energy usage; one way it does this is by making all renewable power exempt from the duty.

In short, the cleaner power we supply comes at no extra cost.

We purchase renewable and CHP power, Levy Exemption Certificates (LECs), Renewal Electricity Guarantees of Origin (REGOs) and Renewable Obligation Certificates (ROCs).

Some of the renewable power that we purchase comes from Europe. We arrange with the generator to import the power from the continent across the interconnector into the UK.
