Business Development Manager

Opus Energy's new Business Development Manager, Michelle Tyreman, tells us about her targets for her new role.

What does your job involve?

First of all I'm responsible for building stronger relationships with our existing brokers, and also bringing in new brokers that we would like to work with for new business.

Secondly I'm working to increase brokers' knowledge of our flexible products. Opus Evolution and Opus Extra stand to make customers big savings, but can take more explaining than some of the more traditional products out there. I want to make it easier for everyone to understand these products and the benefits they offer.

I also manage the administration of our flexible platforms and am a point of contact for brokers and customers already using the systems.

You're new to Opus Energy - how is it different?

Since arriving at Opus Energy I've felt very comfortable about throwing out ideas for discussion. There is a lot of willingness here to pick up on new business ideas and put them into practice.

This flexibility carries over to our customers too. If customers suggest a change to their service, we'll always discuss whether or not we can adopt the change. It's very rare to find a supplier as open to suggestions as Opus Energy.

What's your secret to starting a good business relationship?

It's important to have a strong level of communication with the other person. When meeting, I try to take in as much knowledge as I can not just of my own company, but their company too.

And of course, always be professional!

What are your targets for the next 12 months?

I want to bring more customers onto our Opus Evolution and Opus Extra products. I'm keen to meet with new brokers to bring in more new business and continue Opus Energy's swift growth. I'll also be looking to maintain and improve on our excellent renewal rates.

What's your favourite thing about your job?

The people! I'm enjoying strengthening our valuable relationships with existing brokers, and starting new relationships too.

I've been very comfortable identifying things that could be improved here, and suggesting ways to improve them. It makes for a great working environment.
